 Green houses

SEEWO in conjunction with the Kenya Government are working together to empower women through growing crops in greenhouses and realize get higher produce. The challenge posed by weather hostilities could not allow the growing of crops such as tomatoes on natural habitat, which has been replace by green houses.

Greenhouses allow for greater control over the growing environment of plants. Depending upon the technical specification of a greenhouse, key factors which may be controlled include temperature, levels of light and shade, irrigation, fertilizer application, and atmospheric humidity. Greenhouses may be used to overcome shortcomings in the growing qualities of a piece of land, such as a short growing season or poor light levels, and they can thereby improve food production in marginal environments.

As they may enable certain crops to be grown throughout the year, greenhouses are increasingly important in the food supply of high-latitude countries. The produce is supplied to local markets.

Bee Keeping

Beekeeping is the maintenance of honey bee colonies, commonly in hives, by humans. A beekeeper keeps bees in order to collect their honey and other products that the hive produces (including beeswax, propolis, pollen, and royal jelly), to pollinate crops, or to produce bees for sale to other beekeepers. These products are sold to local and international markets. Women are trained on the importance of honey and its products. This activity has improve their livelihoods.
